Adoptable Pet Cats & Kittens

In addition to our barn-cat program, Project Purr also fosters cats and kittens for placement as indoor, loving pets. The cats and kittens in our small foster program are not wild; they are well-socialized to humans and other cats. In many cases, they have lived with children and/or dogs. These cats are not equipped to survive as outdoor cats, as they are gentle and loving, and lack protective fear. They are special and wonderful adoptable pets. Below are shown our adoptable felines. You can also check Petfinder for the most up-to-date information on availability: ProjectPurr on Petfinder.com

If you are interested in adopting, please send email to the address listed with the animal who interests you most. Include your telephone number, and a description of your household, your experience with cats, and any other information that will help us to ensure an excellent match.

We place kittens only in pairs or triplets. Cats are highly social animals who benefit enormously from interaction with each other. We place pairs and triplets who are already bonded with one another and will provide lifelong companionship. Humans benefit too, as a singleton kitten is often a bored kitten, and a bored kitten is likely to get into trouble. In addition, kittens who are denied play with other kittens often fail to learn bite and scratch inhibition. Moving to a new home is very stressful for any cat, but the stress is greatly reduced when known and loved buddy cats share the experience. Pairs and triplets are if anything more social with other family members, whether feline, canine, human, or other. We especially recommend against pairing a single kitten with an adult resident cat. The kitten will most likely drive the cat mad, and the kitten will be lonely and unhappy. Rather, a pair of kittens will keep each other busy with play and snuggles, and the older cat can make friends and partake of play on his/her own terms and schedule: A much more successful equation for all concerned. Likewise, kitten-friendly dogs are wonderful playmates and pals, but they do not provide the same play, grooming, and buddying that another kitten does. Finally, there are few experiences more fun than watching two kittens wrestling, curling up together in your lap, and growing up into lifelong friendship.

All Project Purr kittens and cats have received age-appropriate vaccinations, have been examined by a vet, have been tested for FeLV and FIV, are spayed or neutered, and have received routine prophylactic parasite control. Many have also received FeLV vaccination. Project Purr requests a tax-deductible donation of $125 for the first animal, and $50 each for any other animals adopted at same time to same home (i.e., $175 per pair, $225 per triplet). Your donation helps to defray Project Purr's investment in these animals' veterinary medical care and fostering.

We invite members of the public NOT affiliated with Project Purr to submit pictures and descriptions of cats and kittens (and other species) who need homes. We will list these animals as a courtesy here on this page. Send brief descriptions, with your contact information, and photographs (good quality, jpeg format) to: webmaster@projectpurr.org. Listings will remain on our website either until you let us know that the animal has been adopted or for a maximum of 30 days. You can resubmit a listing if your animal is not adopted during that period.
